Following the success of its Abu Dhabi flagship, The Grove expands to Al Ain with a second branch that builds on the brand’s familiar warmth while responding to a more open, communal setting. Located within a newly developed community center organized around a central courtyard, the new space carries forward The Grove’s nature-led ethos while introducing a slightly more elevated, immersive experience.
Approached as an evolution rather than a replication, the Al Ain branch keeps the essence of the original café - calm, welcoming, and grounded - while adapting to a setting defined by openness and community flow. Generous glazing and large openings create a constant visual connection to the courtyard, allowing natural light to move through the space and positioning the café as a natural extension of its surroundings.
Materiality sits at the heart of the design. A continuous wood envelope wraps the walls, ceilings, and built-in elements, creating a warm, carved interior that feels both grounding and immersive. This warmth is balanced with exposed concrete, high ceilings, mineral surfaces, and visible structural details that introduce a subtle industrial edge. A palette of earthy tones layered with deeper greens and warm neutrals carries forward The Grove’s established identity, while richer textures and darker timber moments give the Al Ain branch a more mature and intimate feel.
The ground floor is designed as a fluid social setting where seating is varied and informal, accommodating both quick visits and longer stays. Sculpted seating moments and integrated greenery create natural gathering points without interrupting the openness of the plan. Double-height volumes and exposed ducting add a sense of vertical openness and contrast with the warmth of the timber shell, giving the space depth while maintaining its relaxed atmosphere.
Above, quieter lounge-like areas offer a more contemplative setting for those looking to settle in for longer. This layering of spaces allows the café to transition naturally throughout the day - from morning coffee and work sessions to slower, more relaxed evenings - reinforcing its role as a familiar and comfortable destination within the community.
The intention throughout was to create a space that feels sheltered yet open - grounded in warmth and materiality while remaining visually connected to its surroundings. Light, texture, and greenery are used with restraint, allowing the atmosphere to develop naturally over time.
The Grove in Al Ain continues the evolution of the brand: a refined yet easygoing environment where architecture, nature, and daily life come together. Familiar in spirit yet distinct in expression, the new branch offers an uplifted interpretation of The Grove experience - one that feels rooted, welcoming, and seamlessly integrated into Al Ain’s growing community landscape.
