The interior design of Baloney Sandwicherie was conceived as a natural extension of the brand identity developed by Agence Récréation. The intention was to translate these elements into the interior to create a cohesive space where graphic design, cuisine, and architecture interact naturally.
The project is thus built upon the sandwich shop's graphic universe: a colorful and generous identity, inspired by both the retro diner and a vibrant contemporary aesthetic. This visual language evokes conviviality, nostalgia and sandwich culture, while providing an ideal backdrop for integrating the brand's colors. Red, orange, pink, and green are used strategically to energize the space and distinguish the restaurant's different zones.
To enhance the perception of space in the premises, large hand-lettered mirrors by Grosses Lettres were installed in the dining room. They reflect light, visually extend the space, and highlight the activity in the kitchen. On the ceiling, pink acoustic panels shaped like slices of baloney are suspended above the tables. In addition to improving acoustic comfort, they clearly define the dining area. Behind the counter, an orange steel structure serves as a central element of the decor. Multifunctional, it is used as both a menu display and bread storage. Inspired by the industrial aesthetic of diners, it stretches across the entire kitchen. At the front, the storefront windows host high orange steel tables that liven up the facade and catch the eye of passersby.
Finally, special attention was paid to the interior circulation within this small space on Rue Saint-Jean. Color changes on the floor help fluidly guide customer movement between the entrance, the ordering area, and the dining room. The spatial organization helps make the experience simple and intuitive while maintaining a lively atmosphere.
The Baloney coasters are inspired by a key decor element of the sandwich shop, becoming objects that are both useful and playful, evoking the cold cut that inspired the business's name. The Felt Right acoustic panels, installed on the sandwich shop's ceiling, now take the form of coasters. By adopting the shape of thick, vacuum-sealed slices, the merchandise offers a nod that is both cohesive and tasteful.
The project is the result of a collaboration between Quinzhee Architecture, Baloney Sandwicherie, and Felt Right.
