Located in Ubatuba, on the northern coast of São Paulo, this contemporary beach house celebrates a deep connection with nature. The project combines natural materials with a light and open architectural approach, where indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly merge.
Large sliding doors positioned at both ends of the house allow for optimal cross ventilation while transforming the main living area into an expansive veranda—an inviting space designed for gathering with family during holidays.
At the heart of the residence lies a central living area with double-height ceilings, crowned by an impressive glued laminated timber (glulam) roof structure. Spanning wide distances without intermediate supports, the structure brings a sense of lightness and sophistication to the space. Natural light is abundant and carefully controlled through movable brise-soleil, ensuring thermal comfort while creating a dynamic and unique atmosphere throughout the day.
Every aspect of the design reflects the family’s desire for a retreat that balances sophistication, warmth, and immersion in nature. The architecture and landscape work in harmony, creating a fluid and cohesive living experience.
The house was conceived to fully open to the exterior, functioning as a large, continuous veranda. Sliding panels, brise-soleil, and generous roof overhangs provide a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces, while also offering essential protection from intense sunlight and tropical rains.
The double-height living space enhances the feeling of being immersed in nature, allowing views of the sky from multiple angles within the house. Skylights further amplify the presence of natural light indoors.
From the outset, the project emphasized the use of materials in their natural state. Timber frames and a full glulam roof structure define the architectural language, enabling large spans while creating deep overhangs that protect and shade the interiors.
In addition to a generous social area—comprising a living room open to the garden, a gourmet area, a swimming pool deck, and a kitchen fully integrated with these spaces—the residence includes four suites: two guest rooms, one for the daughters, and a master suite for the couple.
The spatial organization reflects the functional needs of the family. On the ground floor, social areas open onto the garden, integrating living, kitchen, gourmet space, and pool deck. Two guest suites ensure privacy, while service areas remain discreetly positioned. On the upper level, a glass-enclosed office offers privileged views of the surrounding landscape.
The project prioritizes the use of natural materials, combining exposed concrete elements with extensive use of wood, reinforcing its identity as a piece of contemporary tropical Brazilian architecture.
