ON House
Namakabrud, Iran
2023

Our goal was to design a "home" in harmony with its surrounding nature. By creating detached open spaces, the outdoor environment permeates into the mass of the project, causing the functional areas of the house, such as the living room, kitchen, bedrooms, etc., to be scattered on the land in the form of independent volumes. This intertwining of inside and outside, mass and surroundings, results in diverse spaces and sequences within the house, while also offering different volumes and façades with distinct personalities on the exterior.

By dividing the buildable mass into several sections and separating smaller volumes from each other, interstitial spaces were created, which were dedicated to communication and pause. The glass walls and ceiling, framed by the surrounding greenery, create a unique quality for the audience while moving through the building. The tactile experience of the brick façade and the way it brings the outside in strengthens the connection between the interior and exterior.

ON House is located in Desa, Mazandaran, near the southern shores of the Caspian Sea and the Alborz mountain range. Designed for the permanent residence of a family, the villa utilizes large glass openings and natural materials like white brick and wood to create a close connection with nature. The interior and exterior spaces are seamlessly integrated to offer a simultaneous experience of contemporary living in harmony with the surrounding environment.

In the design of ON House, one of the key elements is the creation of an intermediate space that plays a central role in organizing and dividing the interior spaces. This intermediate space not only helps divide the house into four distinct sections but also serves as a bridge for connection and access between these spaces.

This space also intelligently establishes a visual and spatial connection between the interior and exterior of the building. By opening up toward the surrounding forest, it creates a sense of continuity and harmony with nature, blurring the defined boundaries between inside and outside, offering the residents a fluid spatial experience. In this context, the use of white brick in the design is not only an aesthetic element but also serves as a visual language that enhances the connection between the interior and exterior of the building. With its color and texture, this material gently extends the intermediate space to the outside, giving the structure depth and character.

The interior is a continuous play with shadows and lights, created with the new glass openings and the use of materials that intentionally want to create a strong sense of contrast. From a landscaping point of view, aiming to enhance it as a cohesive element that acts as a usable garden and scenery for the interior of the house.
