Max von Werz Arquitectos, in collaboration with Mauricio Mesta Arquitectos, has designed the exhibition design for the major exhibition Constelaciones y derivas: arte de América Latina desde la Colección FEMSA. The exhibition opened on March 19, 2026, at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey (MARCO) and will run through August 9, 2026.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the FEMSA Collection presents Constelaciones y derivas: arte de América Latina desde la Colección FEMSA at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey. The exhibition offers a reading of the collection centered on the diverse perspectives and explorations proposed by Latin American artistic production during the 20th and 21st centuries. Utilizing a constellation model, the show departs from singular, linear narratives to activate connections between works, eras, and geographies, revealing the diverse approaches, languages, and perspectives that span the region's artistic production.

The exhibition design for Constelaciones y derivas proposes a textile landscape that envelops and guides the visitor. Oak wood grid structures divide the spaces, generate new gallery sequences, and provide additional exhibition surfaces. At the same time, soft and textured elements, pleated curtains and velvet-covered panels, serve as backdrops that enhance the works on display. This combination of hard and soft materials allows the design to operate at two registers simultaneously: the wood grids establish an architectural order, a legible framework that visitors can read as they move through MARCO's galleries, while the textile surfaces soften that order, absorbing sound and light and giving each room a distinct tactile quality.

The collaboration between Max von Werz Arquitectos and Mauricio Mesta Arquitectos brought together architectural and scenographic sensibilities to translate the curatorial concept of constellations into spatial terms. Rather than treating the museum as a neutral container, the design treats the sequence of rooms as a series of related but distinct atmospheres, each one a node within the larger constellation that the exhibition proposes.

Each thematic zone is distinguished by its own color, marking the transition from one curatorial theme to the next. The furniture designed for the exhibition, including platforms, pedestals, and benches, shares a constructive language and dialogue with the wooden structures that organize the various exhibition spaces. These pieces were conceived not as neutral display equipment but as an extension of the same grid logic, reinforcing the sense that architecture, furniture, and textile all belong to a single coherent system.

As a whole, the exhibition design transforms its environment into a sensory instrument that facilitates contemplation and dialogue between the artworks, the spaces of the MARCO museum, and the visitor, offering a spatial counterpart to the curatorial ambition of reading the FEMSA Collection through multiplicity rather than a single historical line.
