Tampico House was conceived as an interpretation of Tampico’s architectural heritage within the climatic and cultural context of Morelos. Through a contemporary approach, the project reintroduces traditional elements such as arches and porticos to create a home where materiality, light, and vegetation become essential components of the spatial experience.
Located in Jiutepec, Morelos, the house occupies a 400 m² site with a built area of 180 m². The design responds directly to the region’s temperate climate through a strategy that separates the building from its property boundaries, promoting cross ventilation, open circulation, and a continuous relationship with the outdoors.
The project finds its identity in a series of brick-colored pigmented concrete arches, reinterpreting Tampico’s traditional porticos through a contemporary architectural expression. Beyond their formal role, these elements create gentle transitions between interior and exterior spaces, providing shade, depth, and warmth throughout the house.
The spatial organization revolves around a private garden that illuminates and articulates the primary bedroom, conceived as the heart of the home. From this central space, key areas such as the kitchen, workshop, sewing room, interior garden, and service quarters are distributed, creating a fluid functional layout and a continuous relationship between the different spaces.
The arch becomes the project’s defining element and is reinterpreted at different scales, from terraces to planters, establishing a cohesive architectural language throughout the house. The floor plan encourages constant interaction between social and private areas, while terraces and balconies function as habitable extensions that enrich everyday life.
Materially, the project is defined by exposed pigmented concrete, cement-based finishes, curved metalwork, and teak wood, creating a warm, tactile, and open atmosphere that ultimately shapes the character of the house.
