LIMOUSINE
Saint-Lambert, Canada
2024

In the heart of Saint-Lambert—a quaint suburb on the south shore of Montreal—Limousine emerges as a bold and glamorous newcomer to the local dining scene. Nestled in a former café with an unusual diamond-shaped footprint, the restaurant occupies a prominent corner at the intersection of Victoria Avenue, the town’s main artery, and a quieter residential street. Surrounded by elegant century homes and frequented by both long-standing residents and a younger demographic moving into the neighborhood, Limousine offers the area’s first true destination tailored to this new wave.

The 1,700-square-foot restaurant is organized around a central bar that mimics the building’s striking geometry, anchoring the space both visually and functionally. The kitchen is tucked discreetly at the rear, while a continuous series of leather banquettes flows between the perimeter glazing and the central volume, creating a soft and immersive path through the restaurant. A glazed vestibule clad in smoked glass and draped in heavy velvet curtains forms a theatrical entrance, instantly transporting guests into a moodier, more intimate world.

The design draws inspiration from the refined interiors of vintage luxury limousines—evoking richness, comfort, and timeless sophistication. Warm cream-colored walls and a golden bronze ceiling serve as a muted backdrop for the rich palette of materials: dark millwork, high-gloss black finishes, leather, chrome, velvet, and natural stone. The floor is wrapped in small black square mosaic tiles that add both texture and uniformity.

A standout feature is the sculptural lightbox suspended directly above the bar, echoing its diamond shape. Saturated in a deep amber hue, the glowing structure bathes the room in a cinematic warmth, radiating from the heart of the space and acting as a beacon visible from the street. The bar itself features a wood front with golden mirror inserts and a contrasting green marble countertop. Around it, fixed beige stools with red velvet upholstery provide a plush yet punchy touch.

The surrounding banquettes are composed of tubular tan leather forms, adding softness and retro flair, while the chairs are upcycled vintage pieces, refinished in dark chocolate stain and reupholstered with mint green velvet. Custom tables with glossy black surfaces are detailed in chrome to heighten contrast and bring focus to the culinary presentation. A single group table, nestled into a corner of the dining room, is paired with a vintage chrome pendant and boasts a luxurious stone top echoing the central bar.

Behind the main circulation path, a striking millwork installation bridges the back of the kitchen and the front-of-house service area. This custom-built unit houses the service station, coffee counter, and a dramatically lit glass wine cellar. Made of dark-stained wood with cream outlines and chrome detailing, it features smoked glass panels and a matching marble backsplash that adds both function and elegance.

The lighting strategy extends beyond the glowing lightbox: a mix of wall sconces, table lamps, playful artworks, floral arrangements, and nostalgic memorabilia referencing vintage limousines creates a tactile, homey ambiance. The restrooms continue the palette, with glossy cream-and-black checkered tile and vintage family photographs of the owners adding personality and intimacy.

Limousine offers more than just fine dining—it is a mood, a memory, and a marked shift for the city of Saint-Lambert. With a cuisine reminiscent of high-end French bistros and a hospitality style as warm as the lighting, it seamlessly blends retro glamour with contemporary design. Whether for local residents or Montrealers crossing the bridge, Limousine is a stylish and soulful new staple.
