THE KYEOL Clinic is a dermatology clinic in South Korea designed to reinterpret Korean beauty culture through a calm and contemporary spatial experience. Rather than following the glossy and highly commercial atmosphere often associated with beauty clinics, the project focuses on emotional comfort, restraint, and quiet elegance.
As Korean beauty culture continues to gain global attention, dermatology clinics in Korea are increasingly evolving beyond purely medical spaces into curated lifestyle environments. THE KYEOL Clinic reflects this cultural shift by combining elements of hospitality, traditional Korean aesthetics, and modern minimalism.
Covering 58 pyeong (approximately 192 square metres), the clinic was designed around the concept of “empty space” — an approach inspired by traditional Korean spatial philosophy. Open layouts, minimal decoration, and soft natural light create a peaceful atmosphere throughout the reception, lounge, and treatment areas.
Natural materials were carefully selected to emphasize warmth and texture. A travertine reception counter and neutral-toned display table highlight understated materiality, while reclaimed dark wood columns introduce a subtle reference to traditional Korean architecture. Hanji-acrylic partitions softly diffuse light throughout the space, creating a calm and intimate mood.
In the counselling and CEO rooms, reclaimed wood elements and restrained detailing create a balance between Eastern sensibility and contemporary design. Mist-inspired glass doors reference the soft atmosphere of Korean ink paintings, while custom-made furniture reinforces both functionality and spatial continuity.
The powder room was designed as a softly illuminated transitional space using curved hanji-acrylic partitions that create a warm, photo-friendly glow. Black marble basins and suspended mirrors add depth and contrast while maintaining the project’s restrained aesthetic language.
Treatment and care rooms feature lowered ceilings and indirect lighting to create a sense of stability and relaxation. The layout minimizes harsh sunlight while maximizing privacy and operational efficiency, allowing the clinic to function comfortably as both a medical and wellness-oriented environment.
Rather than expressing luxury through extravagance, THE KYEOL Clinic presents a quieter interpretation of contemporary Korean beauty — one shaped by simplicity, atmosphere, and emotional ease. The project ultimately aims to offer visitors not only treatment, but also a moment of calm within the rhythm of everyday urban life.
