Located in LaSalle, a historic borough of Montreal known for its proximity to the Lachine Rapids, this charming residence has belonged to the same family for several generations. Once the childhood home of the client, this multigenerational house now continues its story by adapting to the lifestyle of its own young family.
Despite the scale of the renovation and the underpinning work required for the expansion, it seemed essential to preserve the home’s original character while modernizing its architectural language. A small front addition, inspired by the original canopy, creates a defined threshold upon entering the house.
Inside, the rooms were opened up to create an open concept, inviting living space. Simple yet thoughtful additions, such as the front bench seat and the inclusion of a powder room and a pantry adjacent to the new kitchen, help optimize the functionality and daily comfort.
Large openings extend the home toward the outdoors: both at the front and back, the residence opens onto generous gardens, carefully designed and realized by Friche Atelier. The landscaping takes full advantage of the building’s elevated and set-back position on the lot to maximize the connection with nature.
Ultimately, the project represents a respectful transformation, where the home retains its original soul while offering a more functional and fulfilling environment for a growing family
