Square Courtyard and Landscape Framing: The community center comprises a collection of disparate public facilities. We therefore propose a rearward placement, creating a backdrop to the Community Hub and freeing up a large, structuring open space at the front of the building, on the south façade. Designed as a square courtyard, the forecourt connects the multipurpose hall with the media library and the sports hall. It serves both as a parking area on a daily basis and as a central square on festive occasions.

Barn : Conceived in the image of a long, 37.90-meter barn, the main hall is a through-plan structure. It opens visually to the north towards the expansive landscape and the horizon of the fields. To the south, it opens physically through a façade protected by a canopy and fully retractable via accordion doors onto a forecourt.

Timber Structure: The multipurpose hall benefits from the double-pitched roof. It features a wooden ceiling to manage acoustics and architecturally integrate the air handling and lighting systems. The shape of this ceiling creates an interior landscape that plays with the roof's slope and the equipment built with an exposed timber frame.

Frugal Approach: Once we won the competition, we explored the possibility of modifying the project to incorporate a more sustainable approach. The involvement of Ingébois, a timber specialist, allowed us to modify the materials to align with the local timber industry network in the Hauts-de-France region, Fibois. The project evolved from a concrete block structure with a timber frame to a timber-frame construction. The structure (wall frame and roof structure) is made of glulam poplar from the region, the exterior joinery is made of regional oak, and the partitions are made of CLT (cross-laminated timber, not from the region). The insulation is 80% bio-based, primarily derived from wood fibers.
