The new after-school facility is located in close proximity to the first and second cycles school, north of the outdoor sports center “Les Deux Thielles”.
Planned to welcome 100 children, the program is housed on a single level under a multiple gabled roof. This covering extends in a cantilever on the southern glass façade to enhance sun and heat protection in summer and goes further in front of the main reception space to mark the entrance of the building and be used as a covered playground.
The structure and façades of the building are made of wood from the communal forest and have been preassembled in a workshop. Beside the ecological balance of this kind of construction method, the time spent assembling the shell of the building and generating noise on a sensitive site with children of all ages is strongly reduced.
The regular grid of the structure allows for a rational easy to assemble building and offers the necessary modularity for future changes or extensions to suit the evolving needs of the facility.
