Sam architecture stems from a collaboration initiated in 2004 between Stefan Matthys and Boris Schneider. The Sam architecture firm was founded in 2007 and has been led by Boris Schneider since 2009. Of Franco-German origin, Boris Schneider graduated from the ENSA Strasbourg after studying architecture in Strasbourg, Milan, and Marseille. Committed to a diverse European culture, he honed his skills working with Mario Bellini, Jean Nouvel, Francis Soler, Renzo Piano, and Paul Andreu. Initially viewing architecture as a craft of building, he furthered his training with a carpenter and in a design office in Germany.

Sam architecture received second prize at Europan Prague in 2005, and was a winner of the New Albums of Young Architects award in 2008. From 2010, Boris Schneider taught architectural design and structure at the ENSA Paris-Val-de-Seine (National School of Architecture of Paris-Val-de-Seine), continuing the themes developed at the firm: creating spaces of freedom within a rational context, with particular attention to the materialization of the building. It was during this time that he met Lucas Eydoux at ENSA Paris-Val-de-Seine, who became a partner in the firm in 2024.

Sam architecture now works primarily on public facilities and social housing projects, but also in the commercial and residential sectors. Encouraged by its growing experience in the field of educational architecture, the firm is currently engaged in theoretical and practical research on the transformation of learning spaces. Supporting the evolution of educational programs, encouraging new uses, adapting construction techniques, facilitating the adaptability and resilience of buildings are themes that punctuate the practice of the agency.
